Apparently, more than 1,000 school districts have adopted “gender nonconforming” policies that intentionally keep parents in the dark about their kid’s gender identities.

Parents Defending Education reports that at least 1,040 school districts representing over 10 million students have “trans or gender nonconforming” policies. These rules specifically advise staff to keep this information from parents.

Currently, the state that has adopted the biggest portion of these policies is California.

Meanwhile, the trend to choose another gender apart from one’s biological sex is growing among young people. According to the Trevor Project, 26% of LGBT youth identify as nonbinary.
