Devon Archer’s testimony before the House Oversight Committee unveiled some shocking allegations, most of which implicate President Joe Biden more in his son’s business dealings than previously thought.
Archer told the committee that Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma had paid Hunter Biden up to $1 million per year to serve on its board due to his family’s “brand.” Archer also testified that Joe Biden was a somewhat active part of this process, joining dinners and phone calls with Hunter’s foreign business associates at least 20 separate times.
This is the exact opposite of what Joe Biden has declared in the past when he said he had “no knowledge” of his son’s business dealings in Ukraine.
Archer went even further, claiming that Burisma would have been a failed company without the Bidens’ involvement.
In addition, Archer indicated that Hunter was asked to use his father’s clout in 2015 to help Burisma avoid a potential investigation.
During a meeting that year, Burisma officials pressured Hunter to do something about Ukraine’s then-prosecutor general Viktor Shokin, who was allegedly investigating the company over corruption. Archer testified that Hunter was told to call “D.C.” about the matter.
Not long after this meeting, then-Vice President Biden took a previously scheduled trip to Ukraine concerning foreign aid. Although the U.S. was meant to unveil $1 billion in loans to help the Ukrainian economy, Biden apparently threatened to withhold this funding unless Shokin was fired.
A viral video three years after the fact shows Biden bragging about the feat.
Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) stated that the whole ordeal was likely nothing more than “influence peddling” and suggests both Hunter and Joe Biden have violated federal law.
The law that Comer mentioned is the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which requires public disclosure of certain activities with foreign principals.
However, Democrats are sticking to their guns in saying Joe Biden is innocent.
New York Rep. Dan Goldman (D) told reporters that Joe Biden did not discuss business dealings in any of the calls of which he was a part. Goldman says that President Biden’s conversations were more “casual” in nature and that it would have been “rude” for the then-Vice President to have not acknowledged the other parties.
Republicans will continue the investigation, which could result in impeachment proceedings against the president.
But how do American voters feel about the new revelations?
According to a new Rasmussen survey, 60% of likely U.S. voters believe Joe Biden has participated in an illegal cover-up to hide his son’s foreign business dealings. Only 34% said this situation was not likely.
