Critics fear a proposed bill in Australia would give the government the authority to crackdown on free speech.

Australia’s “Combating Misinformation and Disinformation” Bill 2023 is marketed as a way to protect against misleading and deceptive information. But the Australian Christian Lobby, or ACL, says it makes the government the ultimate authority on truth.

ACL CEO Michelle Pearse says the bill is especially dangerous for Christians. The government is taking public comments on the bill until August 20.
