The Tennessee National Guard is deploying to the Southern border during record-level illegal entries.

Border Patrol says they saw more than 83,000 border crossings the week of May 7, when Title 42 expired. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has repeatedly called for the federal government to stake stronger border control measures.

But it’s states who are answering the call for help.

Republican Governor Bill Lee made the authorization this morning to send one-hundred guardsmen to Texas. He says the unprecedented border crisis threatens both national security and the safety of Tennesseans. Quote: “The federal government owes Americans a plan to secure our country, and in the meantime, states continue to answer this important call to service.”

The Guardsmen will help patrol, place barriers, and assist Operation Lone Star.

Both Mississippi and Florida sent service members to Texas last week.
