On Monday, the House Ethics Committee ended its two year long investigation of representative Eric Swalwell.
The investigation began after it was discovered that he had been in a relationship with a Chinese spy named Christine Fang. An official letter from the committee released this week stated that no further action would be taken on the matter.
Swalwell, who hired Fang as a campaign staffer in 2012, has repeatedly said that he did nothing wrong. The congressman claims that he cut off all contact from Fang after FBI agents informed him of their investigation into her activities.
Fang has been accused of seducing rising democrat politicians as well as infiltrating campaigns on behalf of the Chinese government.
She allegedly used her connections as a student in California’s bay area to work for the campaigns of representatives Rho Kanna, Tulsi Gabbard, and Judy Chu in addition to Swalwell.
In a statement released Tuesday, representative Swalwell maintained his innocence, saying that it was “time to move on.”
