A sobering report warns that a record-high amount of violence may be committed against churches this year.
The Family Research Council says 69 criminal acts were committed between January and March, more than triple that of the first quarter of 2022.
2022 itself ended with a record-setting 191 incidents, which was nearly doubled from the year before. This council warns, “If this rate continues, 2023 will have the highest number of incidents of the six years FRC has tracked, continuing the upward trend.”
The council said that the violence is symptomatic of a loss of respect for worship and religion. Hot-button political issues like abortion and LGBT fueled vandalism, arson, and threats. This creates a nation-wide challenge to freedom of religion.
The author of the report told Daily Caller News, “This is not just a public policy issue, it’s a spiritual issue.”
