The United States imposed sanctions on Iranian officials on Wednesday, including the prosecutor general and key military officials, stepping up pressure on Tehran over its crackdown on protests.

The filing came a day after Chief Justice John Roberts issued a temporary order to keep the pandemic-related policy in place that had been set to expire Wednesday. Roberts’ order was procedural and largely expected as a legal challenge from several states plays out. 

“We conclude as well that the law of manslaughter may prohibit physician-assisted suicide, and does so, without offending constitutional protections,” the court added. 

The pair was released three months after the Taliban freed Mark Frerichs, an American engineer, in an exchange for Bashir Noorzai, a convicted drug smuggler held by the United States since 2005 and granted clemency by U.S. President Joe Biden.

Some 65,000 people died of starvation and disease or in the gas chamber at the camp in Stutthof, near Gdansk in today’s Poland. They included prisoners of war and Jews caught up in the Nazis’ extermination campaign.
