A whistleblower has revealed that the FBI is in possession of significant evidence connecting the president’s son Hunter Biden and brother James Biden with potential criminal conduct, according to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“Based on recent protected disclosures to my office, the FBI has within its possession significant, impactful, and voluminous evidence with respect to potential criminal conduct by Hunter Biden and James Biden,” wrote Grassley in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and U.S. Attorney David Weiss. Weiss is currently leading the investigation of potential criminal activity by Hunter Biden.
In the letter, Grassley calls on the FBI to release the evidence, which his office has validated. That evidence includes a 2020 FBI interview with Tony Bobulinski, a former Hunter Biden associate involved in business dealings with Chinese company CEFC, notes on a meeting between Joe and Hunter Biden and Hunter’s business associates in 2017, and documents related to Mykola Zlochevsky, the owner of Ukrainian energy company Burisma, where Hunter Biden was a member of the board while his father was vice president.
Concerning the Burisma documents, Grassley notes, “These documents also indicate that Joe Biden was aware of Hunter Biden’s business arrangements and may have been involved in some of them.”
In light of the FBI possessing this evidence, Grassley questioned in the letter whether the Justice Department has performed its duty.
Based on allegations, it is unclear whether the FBI followed normal investigative procedure to determine the truth and accuracy of the information or shut down investigative activity based on improper disinformation claims in advance of the 2020 election, just as it did with Hunter Biden information that I wrote to you about on July 25, 2022. It is also unclear whether U.S. Attorney Weiss has performed his own due diligence on these and related allegations.
“The Justice Department’s and FBI’s continued silence on these matters is deafening and further erodes their credibility. Simply put, enough is enough – the Justice Department and FBI must come clean to Congress and the American people with respect to the steps they have taken, or failed to take, relating to the Hunter Biden investigation.”
Grassley attached to the letter a copy of a contract signed by Hunter and James Biden and three associates in which CEFC agreed to send Hunter and James $5 million as compensation for work they did during Joe Biden’s time as vice president. According to Bobulinski, the company had agreed to wait until after the elder Biden’s term had expired to send the money, but Hunter Biden threatened to pull his family’s support from the company in July 2017 when CEFC had still not sent the money.
Grassley’s letter joins the chorus of Republicans calling for more independence and transparency in the Hunter Biden probe, with many accusing Merrick Garland’s Justice Department of being too politicized and unable to conduct an impartial investigation into the president’s son. Last month, 33 Republican senators led by John Cornyn wrote to Garland asking him to give Weiss special counsel status as the Delaware attorney continues his investigation.
The letter came just a week after the Washington Post reported that federal agents believe that the FBI has enough evidence to convict Hunter Biden of criminal activity. It will ultimately be Weiss’ decision of whether or not to charge Hunter Biden with a crime.
