Recently, controversy has emerged around two entertainment productions geared towards children – Harry Potter and Sesame Street.
Starting in the “Wizarding World,” the sport of quidditch has officially been rebranded in a woke effort to separate the Harry Potter franchise from its creator, J.K. Rowling.
The sport, which involves passing a ball through circular goals with broomsticks, is, strangely enough, a real recreational activity which Rowling introduced in the Harry Potter franchise. While in the book series the characters fly around “the pitch,” in the real-life rendition players run around a field while holding a “broomstick” between their legs.
The sport, which has a U.S. and international governing body, will now be called “quadball.” On Wednesday, the International Quidditch Association announced it would be joining US Quidditch and Major League Quidditch in renaming the game.
Rowling included the sport to be one of the main recreational activities for Harry and his wizarding friends, and it appears consistently throughout the franchise. According to the series, Harry himself becomes something of a quidditch star during his years at Hogwarts School.
Quidditch executives cited Rowling’s recent comments on supporting the biological definition sex as the main reason it has changed the name. Rawling has been ridiculed by those on the left for “offending” the LGBTQ community, even though most of her comments have done nothing but affirm the uniqueness of womanhood and femininity. In June 2020, Rowling said, “If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of woman globally is erased.”
In other pop culture news, the children’s television series Sesame Street has come under fire in recent days for the behavior of some of its paid mascots at the Philadelphia-based amusement park, Sesame Place.
CNN ran a report earlier this week in which a mother alleged that one of the mascots employees, portraying the Sesame Street character Rosita, intentionally ignored a high-five offer from two young black girls but gave high fives to a nearby white family.
The woman filming the incident is the mother of one of the girls and aunt to the other, and she reportedly went to park officials to air her grievances to no avail. She then posted a video of the exchange, which prompted the park and the company to release multiple statements of apology. She has since hired a lawyer and appears to be pushing legal action.
Multiple videos have since surfaced on social media revealing what appears to be incriminating evidence against multiple mascot employees at the park purposefully ignoring black children.
