Former New York Governor Andrew was charged with a sexual misdemeanor on Thursday , for groping an aide at the New York Governor’s Mansion in December of 2020. This official charge is the first prosecution against the former Governor following his resignation from the post in August. His resignation resulted from a detailed report, issued by the state’s attorney general that accused Cuomo of sexually harassing 11 women. 

The complaint, filed by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, says Cuomo “did intentionally, and for no legitimate purpose, forcibly place his hand under the blouse shirt of the victim [REDACTED] and onto her intimate body part, specifically, the victim’s left breast.” 

The filling went on to say “a person is guilty of Forcible Touching when such person intentionally, and for no legitimate purpose forcibly touches the sexual or other intimate parts of another person for the purpose of degrading or abusing such person, or for the purpose of gratifying the actor’s sexual desire.”

Though the name of the victim is redacted, a legal representative for former aide Brittany Commisso confirmed she was the individual referenced in the filing.

Commisso appeared on CBS This Morning in August, where she publicly accused Cuomo of unwanted hugging, kissing, and two instances of groping. Commisso said she hadn’t come forward before out of fear of Cuomo’s power as governor.

New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement that Thursday’s charge further validates her report. The New York Post reports that Cuomo is expected to be arrested next week. If convicted he could face up to a year in jail.
