In the 16th century, the Muslim Ottoman Empire, at the height of its power was making its ferocious expansion across the Meditteranean World. The Ottomans had destroyed the once-mighty Byzantine Empire and conquered most of the Middle East and Eastern Europe. They were now threatening the West. Let’s go back to the early 16th century and explore an unlikely victory for Western Christendom, as a vastly outnumbered group of Christian soldiers held off a mighty Ottoman attack in the Siege of Vienna in 1529.
