The victory of the Heartbeat Bill in Texas was a sad day for abortionists. The Department of Justice and President Biden have announced plans to unleash their authority in an attempt to undo it and further legislate away an unborn baby’s right to life.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the DOJ will protect women seeking an abortion. He announced that they will seek all options to reverse the Texas Heartbeat Bill. In his press conference on Monday, Garland revealed that the DOJ plans to use the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act to ensure that entrances to abortion clinics remain open and those entering are not intimidated:

The department will provide support from federal law enforcement when an abortion clinic or reproductive health center is under attack. We have reached out to U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and FBI field offices in Texas and across the country to discuss our enforcement authorities. We will not tolerate violence against those seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services, physical obstruction or property damage in violation of the FACE Act.

The Department of Justice was tasked by President Biden with undoing or circumventing the new laws that were enacted on September 1st which prevents the abortion of babies who are past the 6 week gestational period. It has been titled the Heartbeat Law because this is typically when a baby’s heartbeat can first be heard. The Supreme Court denied a last minute appeal of the law in a 5-4 ruling, enacting legislation of the most comprehensive protection of unborn babies since Roe v. Wade.

The legislation has angered many pro-choice advocates who argue that the law is an attack on women’s reproductive rights. Rene Bracey Sherman, founder of the We Testify movement, said, “Access to abortions has always been a challenge.  According to the Guttmacher Institute, 2021 has already seen more abortion restrictions than any year since the 1973 Roe vs Wade ruling gave women the constitutional right to end their pregnancies — and that was before last week. None of this is new, it’s just more dire.”

While Garland, Biden, and pro-choice advocates decry the protection of women’s rights, what is lost in the rhetoric is the baby’s right to life. Garland is of course right that violence against women entering a clinic should not be tolerated. However, neither should we tolerate the murder of millions of babies before they ever have the chance to see life outside the womb.

The pro-life movement is not anti-woman, it is in fact pro-woman. It is for the preservation of life for the millions of babies that would have grown up to be women, and potentially impacted the world in remarkable ways. The pro-life movement is not anti-health, it is pro-health. It is for the health and well-being of those who are being killed at the hands of so-called health professionals around the country, as well as for the health of the mother.

Women should have rights in their reproductive health, but those rights should not be prioritized over the life of another human being.

While pro-choice advocates often emphasize the need for woman to have access to abortions in situations that threaten their own lives, these circumstances are extremely rare and not applicable to the vast majority of abortions.

The issue at hand comes down to whether or not a baby in the womb is a human or not, an issue that science has definitively resolved.  Life is commonly held to begin when a new organism is formed, which takes place at fertilization. While the newly formed life is housed within a mother’s body and depends on her for life, it is scientifically proven to be a uniquely different life from the mothers. Pro-abortion messaging, skewing science and redirecting the argument, has largely convinced a generation of people into thinking that those who are pro-life are against woman.

In many cases, more needs to be done to help care for mothers who are in challenging circumstances and to ensure that babies born and unborn have the necessary resources and care. But the answer to poverty and difficult circumstances is not murder. The thought process that espouses this is mislead at best and maniacal at worst.

In light of this, those in Texas who passed the Heartbeat Bill in order to protect the most vulnerable of our society should be praised, not lambasted. Likewise, the efforts of our elected officials should be geared towards helping ensure that babies have a right to be born, not finding new ways to steal these rights.
