Andy Ngo, the independent journalist and writer who is known for sharply criticizing and reporting on the radical left wing group Antifa, is making headlines after infiltrating an Antifa protest, and eventual riot, in Portland, Oregon on Friday. Mr. Ngo was unfortunately discovered by members of the Antifa group and was then beaten and chased until he was able to find refuge in a downtown hotel with the help of police. While Mr. Ngo has not yet confirmed the incident, multiple videos and pictures have appeared on social media showing a man who appears to be Mr. Ngo fleeing the scene of the Antifa riot.
Zane Sparling, a reporter for the Portland Tribune, reported on the incident and tweeted a thread of tweets compiling photos and videos of the attack,

Andy Ngo tweeted on May 28, 2021 before the incident,
This morning, #antifa from Portland traveled to Oregon City to vandalize a street where a patriotic event was scheduled. They dumped blood, feces, oil, animal organs & other things all over. They posted wanted-style flyers around the area of people they said are Proud Boys. pic.twitter.com/AmsJiOeS3T

Mr. Ngo has written the book, Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy, which became a New York Times bestseller. Mr. Ngo’s rise to prominence came after he was attacked during an Antifa riot in Portland in 2019 while he was trying to report on and film the rioters.
Portland has been the focal point of riots led by Antifa since the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2020. Friday was the one year anniversary of protests and riots beginning in Portland. The Oregonian reports that an Antifa protest began at Revolutionary Hall in downtown Portland to commemorate the one year anniversary and that as the night wore on the protest devolved into a riot when members of Antifa clashed with police and attacked the man believed to be Andy Ngo.
