On January 19th, during his last official day in office, President Trump gave the Department of Justice authorization to declassify documents concerning the 2016 Russia probe. There is no decision yet as to when the documents will be released to the public.
The DOJ had previously presented Trump with a binder full of documents relating to the probe. Trump promptly asked the FBI to declassify the documents “to the maximum extent possible,” according to a memo he released. On January 17th, the FBI proposed some redactions to the material before submitting them to Trump, which he approved and then asked to declassify.
I hereby declassify the remaining materials in the binder. This is my final determination under the declassification review and I have directed the Attorney General to implement the redactions proposed in the FBI’s January 17 submission and return to the White House an appropriately redacted copy.
